Senior Accountant (freelance)

For a company in the Ghent region, operating within an international and growing business structure, we are looking for an experienced and hands-on Senior Accountant / Acting Chief Accountant to take responsibility for the statutory accounting of various companies. We are looking for someone who can independently manage the entire statutory accounting process, monitor the quality and accuracy of the figures, and also take on the day-to-day supervision of an Accounts Payable Accountant.

• A-Z Accounting: independently managing and monitoring the general and statutory accounts of various companies.
• Monthly and annual closings: ensuring accurate, timely and high-quality accounting closings, in close collaboration with the Financial Controllers.
• Statutory obligations: preparing and monitoring statutory accounting and tax obligations, including VAT returns and annual accounts.
• Multi-company & international accounting: monitoring and coordinating the accounts of multiple Belgian and foreign entities, including any intercompany transactions.
• Consolidation: assisting with the preparation of the consolidated annual accounts from within a recently established holding company. The consolidation structure is currently still relatively simple, but will be further expanded.
• Management of Accounts Payable: acting as manager and point of contact for the Accounts Payable Accountant, who is responsible for the more transactional and operational accounting tasks.
• Collaboration with Controlling: ensuring a reliable accounting basis on which the Financial Controllers can build their analyses, provisions and financial reports.

• You have a solid background in accounting, with extensive experience in a Senior Accountant, A-Z Accountant or Chief Accountant role.
• You have a thorough knowledge of Belgian accounting legislation and statutory obligations.
• You have experience of accounting within a multi-company environment, preferably with an international dimension.
• You have a basic understanding of consolidation and understand the principles of consolidated reporting. You do not need to be a specialist in consolidation, but you must be sufficiently familiar with the subject matter to take on responsibility in this area.
• You are familiar with monthly and annual closings and can independently monitor the quality and completeness of the accounts.
• You are hands-on and have no problem carrying out operational accounting tasks yourself.
• You possess sufficient maturity and communication skills to manage an AP Accountant and work efficiently with the various Controllers.
